Potatoes and sweet potatoes harvest, 'tasai', and wild boars...

It snowed today... and for the first time this season, there was some accumulation...
Harvested our potatoes this afternoon...
They were killed by the frost... first time to experience this with potatoes...
Am very happy with the produce that tipped at 5 kilograms...
These, from seeds weighing 1 kilogram...
And for dinner, my suweeto haato made chicken curry with the potatoes..
Hmmm, super tasty...
Among the greens we have now, the 'ta-sai' is probably one of the most resistant to the cold weather...
And it tastes very good too...

Our sweet potatoes did not do that well this season...
Harvest was rather measly....
A notable development this season, however, is that, wild boars have finally 'discovered' our potager...
Three days ago, they came for the third time... stepping all over our garden...
It is not a pretty scene... yet, there is nothing much for them to eat in our field...
One of their favorites is the sweet potatoes...
Luckily, there is space within a fenced area nearer to our house...
Anyway, made a blockade (with recycled wood) on their approach route...
Hope this blockade is sufficient to make them give up coming...

  1. If I live near your place, I shall knock on your door and get a good, tasty meal of Japanese curry. Looks so delicious and also certified delicious by Suweeto-haato's hubby!

  3. I hope your barricade works - the boars must be very annoying! That curry does look delicious. How is it made?

    1. You are right about the boars being annoying... farmers in my neighborhood have their arms all up in the air...
We make the curry from curry powder that we brought from Malaysia.

  6. I have not been reading blogs this past month, so I stopped by to check your posts out. You always make me hungry with your pictures:-) Beautiful food!!! Wild boars..that is something I don't have living in the city. I hope they are not too big! I watched a documentary on wild pigs in USA where they are invading the countryside. They have become quite large and destructive to farmers. I just have little animals that can be annoying. Our city let loose Falcons to take care of the over population on pigeons.I found a Falcon in my backyard one day sitting on an arbor..pretty bird..Happy Gardening...robbie:-)

    1. Hi Robbie... so nice to hear from you... you are lucky with regards to boars... although I'd imagine the little animals would be equally annoying... Happy gardening to you too!

  7. With home-grown produce, spices from Malaysia and Suweeto-haato's culinary skills, its not surprising that homesickness is not a big issue with you. In Malaysia, sometimes wild boars will be simmered in curries ;D

  8. You are quite right on my not being 'home-sick' in this sense... I have been living outside of Msia since 1980, so this is rather 'normal' to me...
Yes, I have had the privilege to enjoy wild boar curry on my last trip back to Msia... lovely taste...

  9. Hope your blockade deters the wild boars, they can do serious damage. That's a beautiful pile of homegrown potatoes you have there, so uniform in size.
